In 2010 I, Renee Lindstrom, began participating in the 14th Gandhi, King Season for Nonviolence by bringing awareness to my communities and sharing amazing resources made available for this purpose by the organization  Age for New Global Thought.  Once again this year effort will go into making these resources available to support individuals and groups to shift their focus and attention towards participating by developing peace through these personal practice techniques.  Why you may ask would I put this time and energy into bringing awareness to such a worthy cause?  These resources support my passion and career for integrating a value based language into conscious living through value based leadership in business, or organizations,  in parenting, in education and in relationships.  If you would like to join and increase the awareness in our communities I would love hearing your interest and enjoy creating a bigger “Season” of participation and awareness.  Don’t hesitate to connect to ask about how you can join in or start sharing these information and resources in your own community or group.

Here are some samples of the Gandhi, King resources for the 16th Season of Nonviolence.

64 Ways in 64 Days:

64 day program running between the two memorials of Gandhi and King.  Focus upon one value each day through a full contemplate or short reflection practice.  Available in age ranges from adults, to teens and children.  Four samples of daily practices:

  • #1 ADULT – full contemplation

“I can shake off everything if I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”
Anne Frank

When you discover that everyone is contained in you and you are contained in everyone, you have realized the unity of life, which is the divine ground of existence.  Then you are not just a person; you have become a beneficial force. Wherever you go, wherever you live, those around you will benefit from your life.  Even one unassuming man or woman in a community has the courage to lead a nonviolent life, she will make her contribution, and she will slowly inspire others to make the same contribution, because human nature responds to such an example.

When we can say, “Whatever comes, we will not be afraid because the divine Self is within us,” then this resoluteness and faith will enable us to work free from tension, agitation, and fear of defeat. The person who works in this way is at peace, because he or she is not anxious about results.

Today:  I will light a candle to symbolize my commitment to accept the courage to practice 64 Ways of living nonviolently.

  • #2 – ADULT – daily reflection:

#1-Today, I will reflect on what peace means to me.

  • #3 – TEENS – daily practices

Day 8 – HEALING – Everything happens for a reason. Think of ways you have grown and matured from challenging experiences in your life.

Day 9 –DREAMING – Dreaming is the first step to doing. Today, don’t only dream of peace. Live it.

Day 10 – FAITH – We all have obstacles in our lives, however big or small. No one’s life is better or worse than any other’s.  What always gets us through is faith: the faith that with every closed-door is an open window. Today have faith.

  • #4. CHILDREN – daily practices

Day 8 – HEALING – Remember a time when your feelings were hurt.  Share this experience with a parent or sibling.

Day 9 – DREAMING – Draw a picture or write a poem about your dream for peace.

Day 10 – FAITH – Draw something you want to happen to you.
